Ben Carson's Message

Self Assesment

So far blogging has been interesting. Expressing my thoughts without anyone telling me I'm wrong or incorrect. I feel as if I have freedom of speech, even though we all know that that is impossible. Usually I tend to blog about Obama mainly because the classes theme was about Obama, him doing something productive. An aspect I enjoy is reading other peoples blogs and being able see their perspective on articles they choose to blog about.
As far as essay, writing them has been difficult. The whole experience is complex in its own manor. The most difficult part about it is starting the essay. I have writers’ bock as soon as I open the word document. My strengths are being able to get my thoughts together. In all I’m going to get better at witting these essays because I have four plus years of writing essays. So in all, I’m going to work to get better at the whole writing process.

Obama Live

President Barack Obama had a live interview on MTV and BET. He was answering questions giving directly from young people and social networks. I for one thought that this was a bold move. Reason being, this was a live interview and people are disrespectful. Anything could have been said and President Obama would be forced to answer. This was done because president Obama hopes to motivate young voters to vote. President Obama was asked emotional questions from civilians about health care and legal immigration. Out of all of the questions that Obama was faced with; he answered the majority of the questions directly without branching off subject. Something that I notice he does at times depending on controversial extent of the question. Me personally, I think this was a smart move by the Obama administration because it only brings the youth more integrated in politics

The Streak For Cheap

President Obama was at a rally in Philadelphia and some guy decides to streak the crowd. The guy, Rodriquez, did the such actions to make one million dollars. Rodriquez is currently unemployed and desperately needed the money for family needs.  He read about the offering on the internet and felt the need to do it. The Rodriquez had to follow specific points and meet all the requirements in order to get the money. The prize money would be rewarded from a billionaire, Alki David. After running naked and being arrested by police, Rodriquez did not receive the money. He did not get the one million dollars. Rodriguez’s attorney states, "David has agreed to give him enough cash to pay rent for six months and will also pay some part of the cost of medical treatment for his sick sister." "David issued a statement explaining that Rodriguez did not meet all the criteria, although he came very close and his personal story about why he decided to take such a risk for his family moved me to provide him with a generous consolation gift.” I feel as if this was a disrespectful goal to want to accomplish....but that is from MY perspective. I don't have anyone in my family with any life threatening illness' so I don't see the need. As far as Rodriquez; its evident that this was a opportunity to help his self and his family out. A "by any means necessary" type of situation. So even though he didn't get the job done, he still got a slight piece of the pie. But even still, "Rodriquez insists he satisfied all the requirements of the challenge and has the video footage to prove it." so if necessary, Rodriquez may have a good enough argument in court. He may be eligible for the million after all.

Being Young and Effective

Russell Simmons is a icon to many young people in America. Mostly because of his business empires, his leadership in the community, and his funny quick-tempered personality. Russell writes about how young people today determined the outcome of Barack Obama being in office. Russell states, "It was young people, every step of the way, that never gave up hope, never believed that they wouldn't see a black President in their lifetime, never lost belief in our political system...simply put, they never thought that America could not become a more perfected union." I, to some what degree, believe this due to the fact that we as young people care about our future and what happens to it. Maybe that's due to the fact that our president plays a major roll into how our future plays out. What if the Republican Party had won the presidential race? If that was the case, I, as a young person, would have been forced to lose hope and been motivated to work harder. Russell says that, "With the help of young people, anything is possible." Young people stepped up to the plate and played a critical role in the election. Letting voters know about the Democratic representative, Barack Obama, what exactly he stood for, and the actions that he wants to take place while he's in office. Russell finishes off by saying, "Mr. President, you have been a tremendous leader and an inspiration to us all. Remember that young people will always have your back, because you have shown them that they are not only our future, but also they are our present." A way of letting President Obama know that young people will always support him.
